It’s a story as old as the internet. I bring confirmed best practices and strat into an ever-changing product and market. My specialties are a combination of the following:

Design & Brand

I guess you could say I’m a dinosaur of sorts that comes from the classic design and agency era of print, packaging, apparel, annual reports… you name it I’ve done it. So many lessons of my classic designer core have expanded into my web, mobile, product, and UX work. Grids, legibility… and most importantly branding! Branding a solid brand experience is a contemporary keystone to a truly memorable product or service.

UI & UX Design

As one of the few true UI/UX hybrids through my career (cue the gatekeeping and gaslighting), I developed both skills as my clients and customers demanded to know WHY my product UI strategies were effective. Everyone wants a good user experience, but few know how to deliver it, even less wills spare assets to get it done. My aptitude with design systems takes results a step further by packing in best practices to a system that is built to scale.

Product Strategy

This came out pure need as most product folks I worked with were really project managers in disguise. Project strategy has a lot of overlap with the UX work I was doing already so it was a natural fit. I really excel in the discovery process by leveraging a set of lean canvases that provide clear product-led solution.

User Analytics

Pendo changed the game for me. The User Analytics and no code solutions are the best example of UX automation on the market today. Not to mention it aligns and enables my product-led strategies and techniques.

Coaching & Mentoring

Serving as a faculty member for Ai Washington/Dulles for almost a decade was a fantastic experience for me. I’ve always intended to go back into teaching, maybe this time through my own courses and coaching. Whether career mentorship or academic I hope to demystify what I can about building successful product experiences.

PERSONAL INTERESTS

I’m your typical burb dad trying to find cool projects to free myself from the tech grind. Currently residing outside of Washington DC.

Font Design

I’ve released 12 typefaces over the years and am always looking to do more. Type design is cathartic for me, but takes a lot of time. Looking to do more if I ever retire!

CrossFit & Weight Training

I’ve been doing CrossFit for over 10 years… poorly at best. Lifting is a big piece of my life so you’ll find me at the gym on most days. Not much for dieting, been on a 5-year dirty bulk (pizza fan).

Teaching

Was faculty at AI of Washington/Dulles for 7 years and it felt great to give back to the next generation of design. Hoping to get back to teaching… maybe another retirement project

Fine Arts

Came up through painting, sculpture, and printmaking. Like most design folks I really wanted to be an artist… but sold out! Another interest for the retirement stack!
